EXPERTISE
Design
Design is one of the most historic and fundamental human activities, aimed at creating personalized, practical, and culturally meaningful products and services. Weiheng Hu draws inspiration from human-centered and participatory design theories, believing that effective communication between designers and end-users is crucial to improving design outcomes. Guided by this belief, his master’s and doctoral research focuses on advancing design methodologies through both theoretical exploration and empirical studies.
Extended Reality
Extended Reality (XR) is widely regarded as a revolutionary technology, transforming how people perceive and interact with the world. Weiheng Hu shares this perspective, believing that XR holds immense potential to enhance design practices. XR typically encompasses three key technologies: Mixed Reality (MR), Virtual Reality (VR), and Augmented Reality (AR). Weiheng’s research primarily focuses on MR and VR, where he develops experimental systems using platforms like Microsoft HoloLens and Meta Quest Pro/3. By programming with Unity and leveraging advanced toolkits, he creates immersive environments tailored to explore and advance design methodologies.
Architecture
Weiheng Hu’s master’s and doctoral research are rooted in architectural design, exploring both educational and practical design contexts. His work has brought him to some international conferences in the field, where he collaborates with architects from diverse backgrounds. While not a professional architect, Weiheng has held a deep fascination with architecture since childhood, particularly Neoclassical and Gothic styles. This passion extends to urban design, where he continues to explore the interplay between architecture and its surrounding environments.
